General Nursing Midwifery practitioners play a pivotal role in the promotion of healthcare through maternity care amongst mothers and ensuring child care and deliveries on both hospital and community levels. The Faculty of Nursing offers a three-year Diploma program in General Nursing Midwifery which is uniquely designed to develop capable midwifery resource person who has the ability to offer the highest level of patient care and child delivery support. Nursing is one of the noblest professions which not only deals with the medical well-being of the patients but also caters to their mental wellness. Therefore midwifery experts go the extra mile by assisting doctors during the birth procedures. The Faculty of Nursing focuses on shaping the practical abilities of the students through a comprehensive curriculum which focuses on both theoretical aspects and the technical fundamentals of medicine. Not only does the course centre on technical skill, one of the most significant areas of focus is the development of interpersonal skills which are required for ensuring a harmonious understanding between the nurses and the patients. As a way of providing the most practical hands-on training for the students, the Faculty of Nursing is equipped with a 750 bedded multi-specialty teaching hospital – Parul Sevashram Hospital, with a dedicated labour ward, where students can engage in various childbirth procedures. Therefore this provides the students of nursing with the opportunity to actively learn and engage with expert doctors throughout their course.

Program Outcomes

General Nursing Midwifery, seeks to nurture and develop capable resources who are capable of offering and providing the highest level of care during childbirth and labor procedure. Students who pursue this program are equipped with the vital skill sets which are essential for ensuring the highest form of health for the members of the community. The program develops practical skills in regard to various disease treatment modalities and the fundamentals of medicine.

Home Health Counsellor

An ability to develop counselling skills and interpersonal abilities so as to effectively communicate with the patients

Certified Nursing Assistant

An ability to understand the fundamentals of medicine and to prescribe the relevant solutions to the patients and the effective emergency care services.

Midwife

An ability to understand the various needs of women in communities and societies and provide expert support in child delivery.

Community Health Worker

An ability to work and adapt to various social dynamics and geographic landscapes while dealing with patients from various cultural and national backgrounds.
