Our nation is a farming nation, and the Indian economy is based primarily on agriculture. India’s main source of income is unquestionably its linked sectors. Additionally, it makes a sizable contribution to the GDP (17–18% of GDP). For comprehensive rural development, agriculture is crucial in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable methods including soil conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and biodiversity protection. Even Nevertheless, a lot of people are reluctant to pursue degrees in agriculture since they are not interested in farming. The nation’s future lies in agriculture, which is also a gold mine for business people. However, the agriculture industry still needs a lot of opportunity, development, and research.

By the approval of MPPURC, Bhopal School of Agricultural Sciences, SGU had initiated the B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc (Ag), and Ph.D programmes in Agriculture from the academic year 2020-2021 with an annual intake capacity of 240; 150 and 10 respectively. Now approximately 800 students are perusing their degree courses from the School of Agricultural Sciences. At present, this is one of the departments in SGU which has been imparting undergraduate, post graduate, and Ph.D. degree programmes as per the recommendation of the 5th Dean’s Committees of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
